Was the movie "The Wicker Man" starring Nicholas Cage really supposed to be a horror film?

After seeing so many Youtubepoops of it I just don't take it seriously. I find it hilarious. "How'd it get burned!!!????" "Oh, no! Not the bees, not the bees!!! Ohhh, there in my eyes!!! Oooohhh!!!!" Lol.
