In order to take the DMV license test, do you have to have a car that has the parking brake in the middle?

I am going to get my license, but do you need a vehicle that has the parking brake in between the passenger and driver seats? or can it be down under the steering wheel, like in a truck. I want to take the test in my dads truck but he said the parking brake needs to be in the middle, which I have never heard of.
